God Knows All and Sees All

While reading Deuteronomy 17:14 I had to laugh at the irony:

"When you come to the land which the LORD your God is giving you, and possess it and dwell in it, and say, 'I will set a king over me like all the other nations that are around me'....

God knew they would ask for king, He knew their heart, and He warns us time and again through the scriptures about our heart; the heart of man.

Keep your heart with all diligence,
For out of it spring the issues of life.
Proverbs 4:23

Those who are of a perverse heart
are an abomination to the LORD,
But the blameless in their ways are His delight.
Proverbs 11:20

"He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said,
out of his heart will flow rivers of living water."
John 7:38

There are over 750 verses about the "heart" in the Bible. This next one deals with the heart, but does not say it.

"but Jesus did not commit Himself to them,
because He knew all men,
and had no need that anyone should testify of man,
for He knew what was in man."
John 2:24-25

If we read a little further in Deuteronomy 17 we see that God warned this king was not to return to the old way of life (Egypt), nor have multiple wives, "least his heart turn away". Neither was he to multiply wealth for himself.

When he came to the throne he was to write for himself a copy of the law in a book from the one the Levites kept. This was so that "he shall read it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the LORD his God and be careful to observe all the words of this law and theses statues, that his heart may not be lifted above his brethren , that he may not turn aside from the commandment to the right hand or to the left, and that he may prolong his day in his kingdom, he and his children..."

God knows our heart and what we need. We need Him, to trust Him, and to stay in His Word every single day of our lives, so that we too will learn to fear the LORD.

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge.
(see Proverbs 1:7, 9:10, Psalm 111:10).

Blessed is the man who fears the Lord!!
"Oh, fear the LORD, you his saints, there is no want to those who fear Him."
(Prov. 37:9)

"The angel of the LORD encamps all around those who fear Him. And delivers them."
(Prov. 37:7)

When we stay in God's Word, we won't want to go back to the old way of life (living for me).
