Finding Life and Favor

"The LORD has not given you a heart to perceive and eyes to see and ears to hear to this very day." (Deuteronomy 29:4) "The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but those things which are revealed belongs to us and to our children forever..." (29)

Wisdom is everlasting and whoever finds Wisdom finds life and obtains favor from the LORD. But whoever sins against Wisdom wrongs his own soul; all those who hate wisdom love death. (Proverbs 8)

While reading Deuteronomy this morning I see that the LORD reminded them once again of His faithfulness. I also learned that Israel could not see, hear or perceive what God had done for them...even when Jesus came to earth.

After reading Proverbs 8, I learned that Wisdom cries out to us and wants us to understand. While I pondered this I perceived that Wisdom is the Holy Spirit:
"The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom
and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding."

How blessed are God's children who love and fear Him and have His Holy Spirit living within them to supply all their needs!!

In John 14:15-28, Jesus said,
If you love Me, keep My commandments.
 16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever
 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive,
 because it neither sees Him nor knows Him;
but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.

18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.
19 “A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also.
 20 At that day you will know that I am in My Father,
and you in Me, and I in you.
 21 He who has My commandments and keeps them,
it is he who loves Me.
And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father,
and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.”
22 Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, “Lord, how is it that You will manifest Yourself to us, and not to the world?”
23 Jesus answered and said to him,
“If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word;
and My Father will love him,
and We will come to him and make Our home with him.
 24 He who does not love Me does not keep My words;
and the word which you hear is not Mine
but the Father’s who sent Me.
25 “These things I have spoken to you
while being present with you.

26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit,
whom the Father will send in My name,
He will teach you all things,
and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you;
not as the world gives do I give to you.
Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
 28 You have heard Me say to you,
‘I am going away and coming back to you.’
If you loved Me, you would rejoice because I said,
‘I am going to the Father,’ for My Father is greater than I.

What commandments is Jesus talking about us keeping?

And the two greatest commandments are found in Matthew 22:36-40 and Mark 12:28-31. They say basically the same thing: Love the LORD will all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength. This is the first and greatest (If you were to look at the ten commandments, this a summary of the first four). The second is like it, love your neighbor as yourself (a summary of the other six commandments) and "on these two commandments hangs all the Law and the Prophets."

In John 15:12-13 Jesus definitely summarizes the second  commandment, "This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you....Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends." It could also be seen as  a summary of the first commandment as well. Because, as a follower of Christ, we count the cost of being a disciple and then lay down our life (die to our self) to follow our Savior and greatest Friend, Jesus.

Being a disciple isn't easy, but it will be worth it.
